Assessment Resource Center - Scoring Center

ARC offers on a contractual basis performance assessment scoring services to national test publishers, state agencies, and others. ARC’s capabilities include the scoring of writing and open-ended assessments in reading, math, science, and social studies for P-20 clients. Scoring services are provided for both paper-based and on-line assessments.

The scoring process is customized to accommodate client-specific or project-specific scoring parameters, rubrics, procedures, and other special requirements. ARC scores, both holistically and analytically, constructed-responses, short-answer responses, extended responses, and portfolios, including those for severely-handicapped students.

Professional Staff

ARC program managers are assigned to coordinate and supervise each project and to work closely with the client in order to complete the project accurately and on-time. Experienced ARC staff also recruits, hires, and manages individuals who are assigned to score specific projects. The ARC scoring facility is closely supervised to maintain security for assessment projects, while providing and maintaining computer work stations for up to 200 simultaneous scorers.

Scorers are required to hold at least a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university; typically over one-third hold advanced degrees. Extensive training is carefully planned and delivered to experienced team leaders who provide instruction to scorers and resolve scoring issues. Scoring staff must meet performance requirements in order to work on each project.

Each scoring project is supported by the entire ARC administrative and management staff to provide top quality service exceeding the client’s requirements.

On-line Scoring System

ARC scores responses with its own electronic scoring platform or by connecting to a client’s established scoring platform via a T-1 line, Virtual Private Network, or web interface encryption. This allows use of the same scoring software that clients use at other sites for specific project needs.
